A HUGE thank you to opera superstar Roderick Williams, who visited us on Saturday 10 May to lead an incredible workshop for our singers. The internationally renowned baritone singer, composer, and OYC patron has a hectic schedule of prestigious live operas, concerts, radio, and TV appearances, so we are extremely grateful that he was able to spend this time with us.

The Juniors and Seniors started off with an energising warm-up session led by the wonderful Roderick. We then performed to him ‘When I Grow Up’, from Mathilda — a piece we had performed at our Spring concert. Roderick gave us some thoughtful performance notes, which we applied in our Summer concert. He then showed us some of his favourite choir games and exercises.

A real highlight of the morning was watching members of the Senior choir participate in mini masterclasses with Roderick, who added polish and pizzazz to their performances. It was such a treat to hear these wonderful solo songs and learn how to elevate a performance with Roderick’s advice!

We are so grateful to Roderick for sharing his time, energy, and expertise with us!
