Penelope 'Peps' Martin-Smith

Penelope "Peps" Martin-Smith is Director of the Boys Choirs and Assistant Director of the Senior Girls' Choir. Peps has a B.Mus. degree from Goldsmiths, University of London, and a singing diploma from the Guildhall School of Music. She has worked with us extensively in the past, founding our boys' choir and assisting with the girls' choirs from 1991 until 2009. She is also Vocal Director of Vivaldi's Women, a professional group based on former members of Oxford Girls' Choir. She performs widely as a soprano soloist, has a large teaching practice and is singing teacher to the boy choristers at Canterbury Cathedral. In 2008 Peps founded Canterbury Cathedral Garden Opera, of which she is Director. She has worked in all areas of the singing profession and has an enviably comprehensive knowledge of vocal technique. Her first task with OGC was directing the Easter opera, a pasticcio of Handel's "Semele" to celebrate the 2000th anniversary of the death of Ovid.
